FAI Youth Cup Final

The big match is approaching, the FAI youth Cup Final where we take on Leeside from Cork. The match is set for 2pm on Sunday April 30th in Jackman Park. Reports coming from Cork suggest sizeable travelling support so we are asking everyone to come out and support the team. Wear club colours and make yourselves heard.

Girls U16s

Aisling Annacotty 6 – 2 Kilmallock

Our U16 girls reached the cup final with a superb second half display on Sunday. Things weren’t looking good at half-time, as the team were despondent at 1-0 down. But within five minutes we were level following a super left-footed strike from Finn Pearse. The goal seemed to lift the team and suddenly we were purring with Rachel O’Dell running straight at the defence, causing mayhem. It was from one of these runs that the ball fell to Laoise Ní Aodha in the box, who finished low with her right. Things were looking even better when a corner was cleared back out to Emma Donohoe on the end line just outside the box. Showing great composure, she beat her defender, cut back out to the edge of the box to improve the angle, and finished with a left-footed 20-yarder to the top corner, reminiscent of Arjen Robben. Just when we thought we could relax, the excellent Emma Barrett of Kilmallock swivelled on a ball that fell loose in the box to score a second, to make it 3-2. Nerves were getting a little frayed for the next few minutes, so it was a great relief when Finn Pearse, back on after a short breather, pounced again in the box, this time with her right. With Abby McCarthy excellent in goal, and the defence of Katie Murphy, Íde Ní Ifearnáin, Sarah Cleary and Anna Carr looking rock solid, with Amy Keogh and Emer Ryan putting in trojan work on the wings, we never looked like being pegged back after that. With the excellent Aisling Doran having to go off with a nasty blow of the ball in the face, the likes of Aoibhin Hayes filled in admirably. The game was put out of sight when a super through ball from Ally Reeves set Rachel on a long mazy run past several defenders, before a great right foot finish cannoned in off the post. The icing on the cake came when a cross came in from the left, and Laoise Ní Aodha showed once again that she doesn’t know the meaning of “weak foot” with a cool first-time, left-footed finish. Final is next Sunday 30thvs Murroe in Killmallock at 6:30.
