Under 13 A Team

Aisling Annacotty 4, Corbally 2

The under 13A team brought their 2016 competitive fixtures to a close in Annacotty on Saturday afternoon with a top of the table clash against Corbally United where Aisling emerged as 4-2 winners in what was a highly entertaining and very competitive match.

Aisling Annacotty started the game very well and were rewarded with a goal on 10 mins when John Ryan beat a number of Corbally defenders to score the opener. Darragh Murray increased the Aisling lead on 20 mins with a well finished shot from a Leon Kirrane through-ball. Two minutes later John Ryan had the ball in the back of the Corbally net again to give Aisling a very comfortable 3 nil lead at half time.

The second half did not flow as smoothly as the first for Aisling as Corbally came out after the break with an increased intensity to their game and made it difficult for Aisling to settle back into their first half rhythm following some positional changes in the Aisling ranks. Corbally scored 5 minutes into the second half as Aisling struggled to hold onto the ball. This goal was just reward for Corbally's improved play and give them a huge lift as they set about looking for more goals. Aisling were lucky not to go further behind during the next 10 minutes and we were very grateful to our Goalkeeper Muiris O'Dalaigh who pulled off two excellent saves and one in particular, a one handed save diving across his goals was among the best saves that will be seen in Limerick this season, kept Aisling's two goal lead intact. However, in the 50th minute following a defensive mix-up, Corbally got a second goal to pull the game back to 3-2 heading into the last 10 minutes.

This goal only served to jolt Aisling back into life and the resilience that has made this team league champions for the past two seasons drove them forward to re-establish the 2-goal lead when Alex Carragher finished of a flowing team move where at least six players were involved in the build up to score goal number 4 with a fine finish to the bottom corner of the Corbally net.

In this very tight competitive match Paul Maloney gave a fantastic demonstration of wing, both Leon Kirrane and Mark Murphy had good games in midfield up against strong Corbally players, however our man of the match has to go to Muiris O'Dalaigh for his two excellent saves that kept Aisling in the match when our defence was under huge pressure in the second half.
