Corbally Utd 1 v Aisling Annacotty A 1

Having had a big win over our hosts earlier in the season, we were confident of picking up another three points from our visit to Athlunkard on Saturday. Our boys dominated the first half and took an early lead when Sam Den Dikken dispossessed the home goal keeper and tapped the ball into an empty net. We then proceeded to hit the woodwork on no less than three occasions and missed a number of other chances which was to prove costly. Early in the second half, Corbally equalised from a twice-taken free kick on the edge of the box. We piled forward in search of the winner but with the deteriorating conditions making good football difficult and the home side defending resolutely, we didn’t get the breakthrough our dominance deserved.

Aisling Annacotty Under 13 A's

Aisling Annacotty – 1, Evergreen FC – 2 (SFAI National last 32 Match)

Aisling Annacotty played Evergreen FC of Kilkenny on Saturday on the all-weather pitch in Annacotty in the last 32 of the Skechers SFAI National Cup. Unfortunately, Aisling came up short against a strong Evergreen side in a tight encounter, settled via a dramatic last minute winner. This was a clash of styles with Aisling dominating the possession, courtesy of their usual intricate passing and fast distribution. Evergreen were set up much more defensively, relying on fast, powerful forwards to threaten on the break.
Evergreen immediately got a return on this strategy when they pounced on some defensive uncertainty in the 5th minute to finish decisively. Aisling continued to dominate possession through the first half but without reward until the 12th minute of the second half when Paul Moloney was bundled over in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. John Ryan tucked away the ensuing penalty to tie the match up at 1-1 and the momentum was with Aisling. There was almost a repeat performance 7 minutes later following great Aisling play when John Ryan was fouled in the penalty box but this time the resulting penalty went narrowly wide.
Just as it looked as if the game would go to extra time Aisling were again punished for defensive uncertainty with a fine run from the Evergreen number 9 that resulted in the winning goal. On another day, this game could have finished in Aisling's favour but National Cup will have to wait for another year for this talented group of players. The players now look forward to the SFAI Regional Cup semi-final in two weeks.
