Under 15 A Team
Fairview Rangers 3 v Aisling Annacotty A 1. The U15As were on the verge of remaining unbeaten in the League for the calendar year 2016 but slipped up at the final hurdle in a hard-fought game away to Fairview Rangers. The home side were well up for the contest and got the perfect start by punishing loose play by the Aisling defence to take the lead after three minutes. Buoyed by their fast start they piled on the pressure and it took a great save by Donnacha O’Dalaigh to keep the score at 1-0. But in a first half littered with free kicks, an in swinging free from our left-hand side was not dealt with and the ball was finished to the net to give the home side a commanding lead. We were unlucky not to pull one back before half time when a delightful cross by Dara Costelloe was met by the inrushing Rory Murphy but the ball came back off the post and was scrambled to safety. We started the second half much more brightly and our centres halves combined to get us back into the game, Jake Dillon crossing for James Collopy to finish with a close-range header. The momentum was very much with us now and the key moment in the game came a short while later. Mark Donnellan rose highest to meet a corner but his goal bound effort was brilliantly cleared off the line. Shortly afterwards we failed to clear another free kick and the home side scrambled in the insurance goal. We remain on top of the league at Christmas but with four teams still in contention for honours it promises to be an exciting second half of the season. Thanks to all who came out to support us for this game and throughout the year.
