Girls U16s
Aisling Annacotty 4-0 Regional Utd
Our U16 girls had a great win Sunday, against previously-unbeaten, and top-of-the-table Regional Utd. The first half, described by the referee as the best half of football he’s seen all season, was a helter-skelter affair, with high levels of skill and physicality displayed by both teams. Our back four was under serious pressure but held firm. Karen Byrnes had her much taller opponent in her pocket, while Sarah Cleary and Íde Ní Ifearnáin gave as good a performance at centre back as you are likely to see at this level. Katie Murphy saved our bacon, with a tremendous saving tackle, and Abby McCarthy had a fine save in a one-on-one situation. Aisling Doran was strong in the tackle and gave great help to the defence when needed. Anna Carr, as usual, was reliability personified. Going forward, the skilful Alicia O’Callaghan gave Regional much to think about, and Emma Costelloe and Sarah Hall played some delightful football at times. Laoise Ní Aodha brought a heightened level of physicality to her game, and managed to win significant ball up front, while Amy Costelloe got on the ball on numerous occasions and distributed it neatly. With half an hour gone, we got the breakthrough, and a fine goal it was. O’Callaghan twisted and turned down the right wing, beating several players, before firing a bullet of a cross across the six-yard box, and Ní Aodha, gambling like all great strikers, was there to direct it goalwards with some as-yet unverified part of her anatomy. Sensing blood, Aisling upped the tempo, and it wasn’t a huge surprise when we notched a second, this time a remarkable 20-yard strike from Susan O’Shea, with her weaker left foot. Rather disappointingly, Regional came out in the second half with nine players, due to injuries to two players, and the game petered out as a contest. That shouldn’t take anything away though from some really fine play from Emer Ryan in centre midfield, closing people down and spraying some excellent passes. Nor from Nessa Kelly who was a real live wire up front, against Regional’s two best players at centre back, so much so, that they had no choice but to bring her down, just as she was about to pull the trigger, having zipped in behind. Emma Costelloe stepped up to the penalty and blasted it straight down the middle, to make it three. Shortly after, she added the fourth, with what is fast becoming her trademark 30-yard goal, and the referee blew up early. So, a great win for the girls, leaving us to wonder where we could have been, had the league not scheduled us to play without our goalkeeper and top midfielder, while they were representing Limerick U18s, the previous week.
Soccer Sisters Easter Camp
Announcing a soccer sisters camp in Aisling Annacotty om April 3rd and 4th. Any girl who signs up for the AVIVA Soccer Sisters before the end of February will be in with a chance to become a flag bearer at one of Ireland’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Tallaght Stadium, Dublin this April.
Two of the winners will act as a flag bearer for the game vs Slovakia on April 6thwith the other two winners acting as flag bearers for the game against European champions Netherlands, four days later. Each winner will receive a ticket to their match plus three others for family and friends.

Congrats to Donnacha O’Leary (U13’s and 14’s) who has been selected for FAI national development training.
Our A team lost out to Carew Park in injury time yesterday, Carew winning on a 2-1 score line.
Our Youth team top their league after a 6 – 0 win over Caledonians this weekend. Tommy Canty scored 5 (!!) and Dylan O’Neill the other.
The club announced development plans this week after receiving a grant of €198,000 from the Limerick Local Community Development Committee.
