Table Quiz
It’s time to get ready for our annual table quiz, team selection is vital to ensure all bases are covered. The quiz kicks off at 8pm on Friday May 11th in the Castletroy Park Hotel. The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the development of the club and its’ facilities. As some of you may be aware, we plan to redevelop our existing clubhouse facilities into a new Community Centre facility, incorporating our dressing rooms as well as the development of our main grass pitch.
A team can have no more than 4 players and costs €40 per team. The prize is €400 for the winning team. This is an important fundraising event and is great fun too.

Holycross 0-7 Aisling Annacotty
Our U16 girls got their cup campaign off to a good start, with a comprehensive win at Holycross on a beautiful spring evening. Although the score sounds comfortable, the first 25 minutes were anything but, as our players struggled to come to terms with a bumpy pitch and a highly combative and spirited opposition. We struck first on 15 minutes, when Laoise Ní Aodha showed that skilful players can play on any surface, rounding her marker and passing the ball into the corner with Greaves-like economy of effort. However, after that we had several nervy moments, and one had fears that if an equaliser came, a shock could be on the cards. Fortunately, goalie Abby McCarthy and defenders Karen Byrnes, Aoibhín Hayes, Sarah Cleary and Katie Murphy kept their concentration, and on the half hour, it was Ní Aodha again, chipping it over the keeper from 16 yards, with her left foot, to settle the nerves. With Emma Costelloe and Alicia O’Callaghan getting the feel of the surface in centre midfield, we started to play some football at last, and from a fine pass by Aisling Doran, Ní Aodha completed her hat-trick before half time. Within ten minutes of the restart, O’Callaghan put the tie to bed with the goal of the game, receiving the ball on the right, performing not one, but two, of her trademark cutback dribbles, and then letting fly from the corner of the penalty box, leaving the keeper no chance. There followed 20 minutes of fairly even exchanges, during which both sides secured a number of corners, with no end result. Anna Carr ensured that Holycross’s most skilful player didn’t get any joy, and Amy Costelloe showed a Milner-like work ethic, attacking and defending up and down the right touchline. A goal finally materialised from a corner on 70 minutes, when captain Cleary won second ball, and fed it to Ní Aodha, who swivelled on the penalty spot, to once again find the corner of the net. On 75 minutes, not much seemed on from a ball over the top, but then Nessa Kelly fired up the afterburners, and it was as if the rest of the players on the pitch were standing still, as she raced in to get the touch before the outcoming keeper, to claim the goal she has been threatening all season. One has the feeling it won’t be her last. Two minutes later, Ní Aodha was put through one on one with the keeper, and there was only one outcome, as she coolly slotted in her fifth of the game.
U15A Fairview 1- 5 Aisling Annacotty
A goal after 60 seconds for Kai Joyce away to Fairview set the tone for what would be an easy enough victory in our hunt for the Premier League title. Indeed, in a half of poor enough fare it was only the goals that were of real quality. A fabulously headed goal by Alex Keehan, a super individual effort by Chris Nwanko and a cracking half volley by Ronan O’Dwyer left us 4 up at half time. The second half was less exciting with another effort by Christopher Nwanko being cancelled out in the last couple of minutes following some poor defending to leave the us 6 points ahead with a game in hand.
U16A Cup Caherdavin 1 – 2 Aisling Annacotty
Two late goals by Caimin Ayres either side of a Caherdavin equalizer allowed Aisling to progress to the semi-final of the U16 Premier Cup. In a scrappy game Caherdavin worked very hard to frustrate and make work difficult for the League winners. Chances were few and far between in a robust encounter and the game only came to life with less than 10 minutes remaining when a clever through ball from Paul Brennan opened up the Caherdavin defence and Caimin slotted neatly to give us the lead. However, within a couple of minutes Caherdavin were level. A last-ditch corner saw even the goalkeeper deployed for the home side and after failing to clear the ball was bungled to the net. With extra time looming however a winner was conjured by the visitors when a superb delivery from a Donnacha O Dalaigh free kick was driven home by Caimin for number 2 and an away semi-final.
News
Our Youth team had a 2-1 victory away to Regional United yesterday. Either goal could be a contender for goal of the season.
Well done to Aisling Annacotty girls Aoife Mulkern and Emily O’Halloran who represented us on the Limerick U14 team who qualified to play for the Gaynor Cup. Victories over Kerry and Clare and a draw against North Tipp secures them a spot in the competition. Congratulations and best of luck girls.
