U12 Girls
Another great performance from all the girls saw them take all 3 points in the return fixture V Regional Utd on Sunday afternoon in Newtown Park. A much stronger Regional side from the first encounter proved to make for a more competitive game this time. There was great team work throughout the game from the home team who worked hard for their 2-0 lead. Regional got it back to 2-1 before Aisling sealed the victory with a third goal. There was some great saves and defending to keep the visitors out and plenty of goal scoring chances created to make for a very entertaining game and a 3-1 win for the Aisling girls. Well Done!
Goal Scorers: Rebecca Shinnors (2), Robyn McDarby (1).
Under 14A
Last week our U14A team beat Corbally 5,0. A hatrick by Adam Cummins and a brace by Darragh Murray secured a home win. Leon Kirrane, Adam Cummins, Scott McEvoy and Darragh Murray all performed well.
Next day, Adam Cummins, Evan O’Leary and Eoghan Burke (Captain) helped the LDSL U14 team retain the Liam O’Donovan trophy with a win over the Limerick Desmond League in Charleville.
Under 15A
Our U15As were knocked out of the National Cup in a closely fought encounter away to local rivals Regional United on Saturday. In what turned out to be an excellent game of football, we took the game to our hosts in the first half and had the better chances with Sean O’Shea going close to breaking the deadlock just before half time. We continued to attack in the second half and eventually took the lead midway through when Tom Marsden crossed for Dara Costelloe to finish to the net. However, with time ticking down, Regional got back into the game when we failed to clear a routine free kick which was finished to the net to send the game into extra time. A brilliant save by Odhran O’Dwyer in the Regional goal from an O’Shea effort kept the game at 1-1 before a counter attack by the hosts gave them the lead in the second period of extra time. Regional held on the victory which sees them into the last 32 of the competition as well as the regional playoffs. Well done to all the squad who played superbly throughout the 90 minutes and just came up short on this occasion.
U-13, SFAI Sketchers National Cup 3rd Round.
Aisling Annacotty 8 – Mungret Regional 0.
Aisling Annacotty continued their good start to the season with an emphatic 8 – 0 win against Mungret Regional in the SFAI Sketchers National Cup 3rd Round in Annacotty on Saturday Afternoon. Annacotty started the match at lightening pace and were 2 nil up after 5 minutes following great goals from Paul Maloney and Darragh Murray. For the remainder of the first half Annacotty found the Mungret Goalkeeper to be in fine form and the first half finished 2 – 0 despite Aisling enjoying the lion’s share of possession. The second half started like the first with John Ryan scoring 2 quick goals, one of them when he out jumped the Mungret defence to score with a fine header from a corner kick. A fifth goal by Darragh Murray on 40 mins but Annacotty in a very comfortable position with 20 minutes remaining. Two late goals from Stephen Oydajei and a superb goal from Mark Murphy saw Aisling Annacotty run out 8 – 0 winners and advance to round 4 of the SFAI National Cup competition.
(team: Conall O'Duinn, Darren Nwankwo, Ciaran Coulter, Muiris O'Dalaigh, Ben Hayes, Stephen Kiely, Darragh Murray, Mark Kinsella, Mark Murphy, Leon Kirrane, John Ryan, Paul Maloney, Colm Lenihan, Stephen Oydajei.)
Under 13 Division 2
Aisling Annacotty Under 13 C.
Aisling Annacotty won their U13 Division 2 match against Mungret Regional 1 – 0 in the sunshine in Annacotty on Saturday. The first half of the game was very close with Aisling enjoying the most possession with nice passing in mid-field by Darragh Murphy, Conor Tracey and Darren Diaze. Aisling had a few shots on goal in the first half but they either went narrowly wide or found the goal keeper in top form. Just before half time Mungret nearly scored with several good attempts on goal putting our defence under pressure and Shane Twomey making some great saves.
This was the wake up Annacotty needed and in the second half Aisling dominated play. Max Hoare fired in some great corner kicks drawing some great saves from Mungret. A very well measured and controlled long high pass by Conor Gavin straight into our forward Michal Kornacki allowed him to out run around two Mungret defenders to put the ball into the back of the net with an excellent finish. A solid performance from the Aisling defence lead by Oisin OReilly at centre back allowed Aisling to run out 1 – 0 winners.
