Boys Under 12
The Under 12A team played a top of the table match against Fairview Rangers on Saturday morning. With both teams supplying 13 members of the current LDSL Under 12 squad it was expected that this would be a high-quality affair. The match did not disappoint as a fantastic game unfolded over the hour between evenly matched teams. The teams adopted contrasting playing styles with Fairview keen to move the ball quickly from defence into their dangerous attacking players. Aisling were well prepared for this style of play and defended in numbers restricting the space and opportunities for Fairview. Indeed, throughout the whole game the defensive trio of Jack Dolan, Seanie O’ hAodha and Aaron Hough were outstanding while Muiris O’ Dálaigh was sharp and alert to any dangerous situation in the penalty area. Aisling looked very dangerous on the counter attack and Ben Moylan, Matthew Carroll and Donnacha O’ Leary used their pace and skill to create some very good scoring opportunities. The crucial opening goal came after 15 minutes with Donnacha finishing expertly as he raced in towards the Fairview goal. Aisling continued to control possession for the remainder of the half as Colm Lenihan and Darren Nwankwo began to exert dominance in midfield. Aisling created 2 great opportunities at the start of the 2nd half with Matthew just firing wide after a great pass from Donnacha and then firing a sizzling shot from distance that whizzed just over the crossbar. Davy Brennan, Paul Canny, Daniel Walker and Dara Ferland were all introduced in the 2nd half and contributed excellently to a great team performance. Fairview finished the game very strongly exerting great pressure in the final 10 minutes. However, once again Aisling defended brilliantly with a defensive wall that Fairview could not breach. Aisling remain unbeaten in the League after 7 games with 19 points with Fairview, Pike Rovers and Shelbourne still in contention.
Girls U18
Aisling girls had another fine win against an under strength Regional Utd – and finish the year on top of the LWSSL U18s league. Aisling started well playing a nice short passing game, after 10 mins Nicole Lammond popped up to score a fine strike from the edge of the penalty area. Regional fought hard but faded after continued pressure which lead to scores from Claire Kelly, Rachel O Dell, Emma Donohoe, Niamh O Byrne – as Aisling controlled all aspects of the game. Jade O Connor and Aoife O Driscoll were also rewarded for their efforts scoring their first goals for the club, making it a day to remember and a cause for much celebration all round. We take a short break and will resume training early in the New Year to prepare for our next league match away to Tulla Utd on Jan 8th.Well done girls on a great start to the season and enjoy the well-earned break.
