Aisling Annacotty Weekly Newsletter

A Team

Well done to the team who brought home the Tuohy Cup following a 2,1 victory over Janesboro. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the team.

Boys Under 14A

Our U14As hosted Fairview this weekend in a top of the table clash in Annacotty. In a fabulous game of football the home side started well with great combination play between Mark Murphy and Adam Cummins causing the visitors trouble and it was this combination which eventually unlocked the Fairview defence to give the home side a deserved lead at half time when Murphy netted from close range.

Fairview started the second half very strongly and 15 minutes in got a cracking equaliser when a Conor Keane cross was despatched superbly by Fahad with a great header to draw the sides level.

The introduction of Max Ivory for the home team however was key with Chris Nwanko pushing up front and Adam Cummins taking up a wide berth. It was this combination that broke Fairview hearts when Chris squeezed home after a lightening break and moments later put the game beyond doubt when coolly slotting an inch perfect pass from Darragh Murray to give the home side a 3-1 victory.

There were very impressive performances all over the park today in a hugely competitive game full of exciting football. Rhian O'Connell was excellent for Fairview whilst Eoghan Burke marshalled an excellent back 4 for the home side with Mark Murphy, Leon Kirrane and Evan O'Leary outstanding throughout.

Boys Under 12A

The boys Under 12A team played Regional United last Saturday in Dooradoyle. Considering all the rain that fell on Saint Patrick’s Day, the pitch was in fine condition. This was a top versus bottom clash but at half time Aisling Annacotty trailed 2-0. A major upset was on the cards as Aisling, despite dominating possession and territory, could not break down a well organised Regional defence. The boys came out with renewed urgency and determination in the second half and two early goals scored by Donnacha O’ Leary and Aaron Hough, brought them level. The game ebbed and flowed for the next ten minutes with Aisling Annacotty creating some great goal scoring chances but the Regional goalkeeper was in fine form and one save in particular from a great header by Donnacha is a candidate for save of the season. The game changed in the last 5 minutes as Aisling Annacotty scored two fantastic goals both free kicks.  First up stepped Darren Nwankwo to rifle home a thunderbolt from 20 yards into the top corner. Minutes later Matthew Carroll was fouled outside the penalty area. Matthew took the resulting free and curled a beauty over the wall and into the top corner. A fantastic comeback was complete. Credit to Regional United who provided excellent opposition and played with great skill, heart and determination throughout the game.
