Girls U16s

Aisling Annacotty 2 -2 Holycross

Our U16 girls pulled off a tremendous comeback against second-placed Holycross on Sun 12th. Playing the entire match with only 10 players, luck was against them on 25 minutes when a ricocheted clearance looped in over goalkeeper Abby McCarthy’s head. By half-time they were 2-0 down following a fine second goal. Some positional switches at half-time steadied the ship, and Sarah Cleary proved a revelation in an unfamiliar role in the forward line, sending in some fine crosses from the right. With Charlie Hanrahan marshalling her younger colleagues, Anna Carr, Íde Ní Ifearnáin and Aoibhín Hayes, the defence was looking increasingly solid, and Annacotty started to dominate the exchanges. Holycross’s one shot on target was saved excellently by Abby McCarthy. Midfielders Ciara Kelly and Emer Ryan worked tirelessly and put it up to older and bigger opponents. The goal we deserved was a long time coming, but eventually the pressure told. A fine through ball from Sarah Cleary gave Laoise Ní Aodha a shooting chance. The goalkeeper parried, but Emma Donoghue came in like a freight train to grab the goal her outstanding performance deserved. With 10 minutes left, it was game on, and Annacotty won a succession of corners, without yielding an equaliser. But once again it was a ball in from Sarah Cleary, which finally gave Laoise Ní Aodha the chance she had been waiting for to get in behind the defence. Carrying the ball 20 metres, she waited for the keeper to make her move, and buried it with Lineker-like efficiency.

Girls U18s

Aisling Annacotty 3 – 0 Murroe

Our U18s girls league hopes were kept alive with an excellent 3-0 win against Murroe on Sat 11th. The girls played a fast-flowing game and worked hard, particularly in midfield, and controlled the game from the start. Goals from Emma Donohoe and Rachel O Dell gave the girls a commanding half time lead. Murroe fought back and came close only to be denied by some excellent saves by Abby McCarthy in goals. Nicole Lammond was denied a score which was ruled offside and with 10 mins left the game was secured with an excellent headed goal by Charlie Hanrahan who got on the end of an Emma O Donohoe trademark in swinging corner. We now need Murroe to do us a favour when they meet Tulla next week.

Team: Abby McCarthy, Anna Carr, Shalini Kujur, Charlie Hanrahan, Jade O Connor, Claire Kelly, Rachel O Dell, Aisling Kennedy, Emma Donohoe, Nicole Lammond.

Aisling Annacotty Women's Team

The club has achieved another major milestone by entering an adult team in the LWSSL Senior League commencing in April. This is the first-time Aisling have competed at this level in over a decade. The team will be coached by Marie Curtin, a former Irish International – who has vast coaching and playing experience in the US and Norway and has returned to Ireland to set up her business, Temple Dairies. She has agreed to join Aisling Annacotty and will help with the development of our players who are coming through the underage ranks and moving on to adult level soccer.

We are looking for other adult players to help with this exciting development for the club. Anyone interested may contact John Kelly (086 0430193) or Jennifer Colford (085 7104935) or any club committee member. Please spread the word.
