Aisling Annacotty Weekly Newsletter

B Team

Our B Team had a fighting draw vs Newport last Saturday night

We were 2 down at half-time but Jason Lipper curled in a free kick with 15 minutes to go and in 95th minute smashed home the equaliser.  Thanks to everyone who came out to support the team.

Girls under 12

Well done to Rebecca Shinnors, Isabelle O'RIardon and Patrycja Nedzed who represented Limerick county in an inter county blitz in Tipperary at the weekend. The girls got lots of game time and played really well.

Boys Under 13A

Aisling unfortunately came up short against a strong St Brendan's Park side who were solid at the back and attacked well from both wings. Midway through the first half St Brendan’s showed their intent with a shot on the break that hit the post. Shortly after that they repeated the move but hitting the target and scoring. Aisling showed more attacking intent with the introduction of Paul Moloney on 25 minutes. However, we were lucky to go into the break just one down after a powerful St Brendan's shot from distance rattled the cross-bar.
Aisling regrouped in the second half and were starting to get more involved when we were caught out from a long attacking throw-in to concede an easy goal. Two down and with a mountain to climb, now we started to take control of the game. John Ryan and Darragh Murray had chances, before John was taken down in the box and stepped up to convert the penalty himself. Shortly afterwards Darragh was checked on his way through the St Brendan's defence and was unlucky not to be awarded a second penalty. Minutes before the final whistle Ben Hayes connected superbly with his head from a long cross, but unfortunately the ball fell kindly for the goalkeeper. If the game had gone on longer we looked certain to equalise, but unfortunately it was not to be.
Final Score: St Brendan's Park 2 Aisling Annacotty 1

Girls U16s

Aisling Annacotty 2 – 0 Regional

Our U16 girls pulled off the result of their season on Sunday, with a 2 – 0 victory over Regional Utd, after extra time of their Cup Quarter Final. Regional, having won all their matches in the league were strong favourites coming in. However, our girls, with their full squad of players available for the first time all season, matched their opponents every step of the way in hot, draining conditions. Early on, Annacotty showed their intent, as a Rachel O’Dell shot cannoned of the post. As the half wore on further chances came their way, and Laoise Ní Aodha flashed one narrowly wide. Regional had their chances too, and Abby McCarthy backpedalled furiously to tip one over, and on the stroke of half-time was grateful to have a looping shot come back off the post into her arms. Regional upped the tempo in the second half, and piled on the pressure. The back four of Anna Carr, Íde Ní Ifearnáin, Charlie Hanrahan and Katie Murphy dealt with everything thrown at them though, and Annacotty started to get a grip on the game again, and were unlucky to be denied a penalty when it looked like Sarah Cleary was pushed to the ground. Heading into extra time, a crucial factor was having substitutes capable of slotting seamlessly into the team, and Ally Reeves, Amy Keogh, Laura Donaghy, Finn Pearse, and Ciara Kelly all put in tremendous shifts. Particular mention should be made of Aisling Doran who kept Regional’s vaunted right-sided players quiet all day and launched several attacks of her own. With Rachel, due at another round ball event, she upped her game and gave 10 solid minutes before leaving us, hitting one 30-yard pile driver, which the Regional keeper just tipped over. With the tie looking like it was heading to the dreaded penalties, Emma Donoghue finally stamped her class on the game. With the quality of ball, she was putting in all day, it was always likely one might cause havoc. Such it proved when a cross/shot nestled in the net, sparking wild celebrations on the side-line. Two minutes later, it was all over, when in the move of the match, Emma turned on the afterburners, swept past three defenders on the left wing, and sent in a wickedly swerving cross, which Regional could only turn into their net.
