Aisling Annacotty Weekly Newsletter

B Team

Junior B team beat Knockainey A by 4-1 in Knockainey on Sunday. Two goals from Conor Burke and Jason Lipper secured a vital win. Great defensive performances by goalkeeper Jack O'Brien and sweeper Des Keenan, Gordon Roe and Joe Lavin in midfield has given the B team a great chance of staying in Division 1A for next season.

Junior D

Table toppers Athlunkard Villa B came to Aisling on Sunday morning looking for a win to secure successive promotions, this time to Division 2B. Two late goals from Aisling denied Athlunkard for at least another week and gave Aisling D a deserved 3 – 2 win. A rejigged Aisling defence of Bradie Flynn, Conor Hanrahan, Ryan Harris and Adam Deegan kept Athlunkard’s chances to a minimum. Athlunkard had not conceded in the previous four games but were caused difficulty throughout by an Aisling team who mixed it up well – at times moving the ball quickly through the wings and the middle and at times more direct to Niall Loughran up front who was always a handful for the defence. Aisling scored three milestone goals. Ryan Harris scored to bring his season tally to 2 – a record tally in a season for Ryan. Dara Neville scored his first of the season. Jason Daly’s winner with 5 minutes to go was his seventeenth of the season and puts him back joint top goalscorer in the division.

Our youth team had a great 2, 0 win over Janesboro to reach the final of the FAI youth Cup. Scorers on the day were Sean Feeney and James Deegan. The final will be against Cork opposition to be played on the May bank holiday weekend.
