Under 17B

After beating Knockainey 2 – 1 at home and just losing out to Shelbourne 4 – 3 away, Aisling Annacotty Under 17B faced second in the table Star Rovers in the last match of the 2016/2017 season on the astro pitch at Annacotty on Sunday 14th May 2017. Brian O'Donnell opened the scoring in the 8th minute whilst James White's shot in the 30th minute went just wide of the post leaving the score 1 – 0 to the Under 17B home side at half-time. At half-time Daragh Keogh replaced injured Ishaan Conroy who had played well on the wing.

5 minutes into the second half Dylan Campion had a shot saved and at the other end Aisling goalkeeper Tommy Canty pulled off a couple of fine saves. Brian O'Donnell scored his second goal with a neat chip on 60 minutes and 5 minutes later James White struck the crossbar with a fine shot. Mid-way through the second half Colm McArdle came on for the injured Paul Hurley who had played well in defence. However, Star pulled a goal back in the 70th minute to make it 2 – 1. Aisling defended resolutely over the next 10 minutes with David Leahy, Evan Power, Andy Rowsome and Dylan Campion now in defence. Daragh Keogh, Josh O'Keeffe and Colm McArdle also retained a lot of possession in the Star half. Brian O'Donnell just missed out on his hat-trick in the 75th minute with a shot that went just wide. 5 minutes later Andy Rowsome fired a free kick into the top right-hand corner leaving the keeper no chance to make it 3 – 1 and Finn Curtin had a shot saved 5 minutes later. A penalty converted by James White after he was taken down in the box with 2 minutes to go finished the game and resulted in a 4 – 1 end-of-season victory for Aisling.

Under 10’s and Under 11’s

Last Sunday the Under 10’s and Under 11’s took part in the annual Barnardo’s soccer tournament in sunny Douglas Hall, Cork. Both teams played very well getting to their respective finals. The U10’s drew against a Limerick academy side in their final, unlucky to lose out in a penalty shoot-out. The U11’s lost out to a very clinical and physical Douglas Hall team in their final.

Fergus Finlay thanked each and every one in Aisling Annacotty for raising €1430 for Barnardo’s. Fergus also stressed that while the fundraising is important, it is all about the tournament with impressive soccer played with smiling faces throughout the day.
