Under 16 Match Report

The weather held good for this league game on Saturday afternoon but the pitch was soft after recent poor weather.  Both sides started at high intensity although movements were often not as quick as players intended due to the soft pitch. The home side sat off Annacotty in a 1.4.4.2. early on as the visitors played left to right in an attempt to find gaps to exploit.  On 4min such a gap was exploited in the home defence as Mark Burchill started a fantastic attacking move which finished in a 1v1 with Aidan Walker of AAFC vs Caherdavins goalkeeper. Caimin Ayres received the pass from Burchill with the intent and picture in his head to play through the on running Walker with an intricate blind pass. A. Walker took a touch, looked up and finished into the bottom right of the goals for 1-0.
The next 20mins saw both sides implement both their attacking strategies i.e.  possession and patience Vs direct counter attacks, the home side providing the latter. Mark Collins was key to implementing our game throughout with U15 Ronan Dwyer tirelessly working around him.
Aisling secured possession in their own half and vice-captain Conor Twomey hit a 40-yard diagonal lofted pass to the fully aware Caimin Ayres who again picked out the on running Aidan Walker, this time the assist was with a flick on of his head and Walker made no mistake with a tidy finish under the keeper. 2-0 on 27min.
This goal started a barricade of attacks on the home goal and on 30min the outstanding C. Ayres rose highest to firmly head Joey Ryan's corner kick into the top corner of the net. 3-0.
5min later Ayres was at it again!  Dribbling excellently through Caherdavins defence and selflessly teeing up Sean Fahy for one of his trademark right place right time finishes. 4-0.
Half time 4-0 but for large part of the first half, a 1-0 game.
The second half was a story of Caherdavin playing for damage limitations and Aisling managing the game with intelligent use of the ball.
Whatever Caherdavin said at half time made them come out fighting for their shirt in the second half.
They broke in behind twice early on with shots wide of the goal on both occasions.
The game fizzled out after this period from the hosts and AAAFC managed the game very well with some fantastic attacking combination play. Ronan Dwyer hit the post, Caimin Ayres dribbled through the 2 defensive lines of Caherdavin and saw his pass finished and flagged for offside.
The last 15min provided some entertainment for those watching… Mark Burchill now on the left, dribbled at pace and was brought down in the box then put his penalty bottom left and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Caherdavin were to get their rewards for such a full-hearted performance as the very brave Colm Mc Elerny rushed from his goal to clash with Caherdavins on running attacker only to concede the spot kick which in turn was excellently converted to make the game 5-1.
We weren't finished just yet with controversy as the game finished with Brian Higgins whistle for an offside goal against Ruairi Manning of Aisling Annacotty.  Game Over.  End result 5-1. A good spirited game from all involved with great effort given by the players.
