Match Reports
Aisling junior D secured promotion to division 2B in style on Sunday morning with a 6 – 1 thumping of promotion rivals Parkville on the all-weather pitch. The early exchanges were even enough until left back Conor Hanrahan scored half way through the first half after a trade mark run up the pitch. Barry Madden scored a wonder free kick (won by Hanrahan) with five minutes left in the half. There is a video of it doing the rounds. Worth watching if you come across it. Niall Loughran squeezed a third before half time. Hanrahan (who else and this one was exceptional even for Conor), Madden and Sean Corcoran made it six nil within 20 minutes of the restart. Aisling relaxed a bit then but there was time for keeper Jack O’Brien to save a penalty and Parkville to score a late goal to deny us a first clean sheet of the season.
That came in the last match of the season on Tuesday in a teak tough nil all draw away on lit Astro to the div 3A winners Caherdavin B. Brilliant season by this (not totally) young Aisling team. Some inconsistency early in the season cost us the title but the quality in the last month was a joy to witness. Great credit to Steven Byrne for the exceptional training sessions and Brendan Hogan and I suppose myself (Neil Kelly) for keeping things ticking over.
